My face is really dry after starting a new acne treatment…?
Mу doctor јυѕt switched mе tο using something called erythromycin аnd benzoyl I believe аnd now mу skin іѕ really dry аnd flaky. Shе tοld mе іt wουld bе lіkе thіѕ, bυt thаt I shouldn’t υѕе аnу moisturizer. Mу acne hаѕ pretty much cleared up bυt I really саn’t stand thе dry skin (I’d аlmοѕt rаthеr hаνе a lіttlе acne) Iѕ thеrе anything I саn dο tο gеt rid οf thе dry skin аnd still keep using thе treatment? Iѕ іt okay tο υѕе a lіttlе moisturizer οr саn I υѕе sunblock οr something tο gеt rid οf thе flaky skin? Thanks!
Most acne treatments do dry out your skin, and it is normal. Although if it extremely dry and irritated you should possibly stop that particular drug. Try something new that wont dry out your face as much or use the treatment more sparingly. Benzoyl is harsh on skin and will dry it out. If this particular drug is really working for you and you dont want to stop using it, ask your dermatologist for a prescribed moisturizer that would be safe to use along with the drug.
Your doctor probably said not to use moisturizers, because the erythromycin/benzoyl may react with certain ingredients and cause you do dry out more
i would use moisturizer what is wrong with this doctor, my dermatologist recommends cereve, it doesnt cause me to have break outs… and use that formula prescribed less frequently, maybe once a week even … until your skin adjusts to it.. then slowly increase use… one i like is called atralin, use the lowest dose, its good for sensitive skin which sounds like you have. and you could lighlty exfoliate with a wash cloth in the shower to help get rid of the flakes – but be gently and go slow so you dont make your skin all red
Ah. Thats ahppening to me…Because I’ve been using Neutrogena oil-free acne wash..So it dried my face but I’ve been using 2 moisturizers ive been using…Skinlogics Gold moisturizer and something from palmers im not sure of the name but if you want to know you can email me (: And they work.
