SCOUTMA5 you said there are a few nasty side effects, what are they? and how did your daughter control them? and when you say nose bleed do you mean like everyday? also how bad was your daughters acne and how is it now? thanks! how much was it? how did you get it?
DR ZILLA IS DR FROG: what is the best way to prevent dry skin because that is the only thing i’m worried about! what would you reccomend?
Dosage is based on weight and severity of acne, so how often you take it will vary. Yes, it really does work. Accutane is the only FDA approved CURE for acne, not a treatment a cure, it has an incredibly high success rate for those who are able to tolerate it.
Common side effects: dry skin, dry eyes, nosebleeds
less common and more serious: joint pains, feeling tired and irritable.
Very serious, tell your doctor right away: severe headaches, thoughts of suicide, changes in vision.
The worst and rarest thing is possible liver damage. Ask your doctor before you take any other medication/vitamin while you are on Accutane…..drug interactions can be fatal. Don’t be scared, the severe side effects are very rare. Follow your doctors instructions and you will be fine. Also, if you are a girl you will have to use 2 forms of birth control whether you are sexually active or not.
Edit* Cetaphil cream CREAM, not lotion several times a day. Also a plain, unscented soap like Dove or Cetaphil bar soap. Use a saline nasal moisturizing nasal spray/drops to prevent the nosebleeds. You will also need artificial tears for your eyes which will also be quite dry. Chap stick with SPF 15 or higher for your lips, keep it in your pocket and use several times day, your lips might crack and bleed if you don’t. Have you seen the before and after shots? I’ll see if I can get the link to post.
It really worked for my daughter. She was on a LOW dose for almost a year. Doc said if you stop too soon it will come back. One pill a day. There are loads of nasty side effects but she was very careful and apart from a couple of nosebleeds everything went well. Main problem for girls:if you get pregnant your baby WILL be deformed or something.Stay out of the sun.Watch for depression.(but acne’s pretty depressing anyway).Regular blood test for liver function.
I’m currently on Accutane…finishing up month 3 right now. I believe I’m suppose to be on it for months. I’m currently still getting break outs, they aren’t as bad, it’s kinda clearing up.
The main side effects I have had is dry skin. My face gets dry, my lips get dry, the bottom of my arms get dry, and the inside of my nose gets dry which results in those nose bleeds people are talking about.
The main thing you will need is Chapstick! Bring it everywhere you go or else your lips will dry out quick and start to crack and bleed…trust me. That’s basically the only problem that I had.
If you have acne go ahead and get on accutane and don’t wait. Accutane is the most powerful drug on the market to fight acne, if accutane doesn’t work for you then nothing will.
Note: I’ve tried everything before I went on accutane…nothing worked. Not even ProActive (what a joke).
