Acne Products – Which one could work for me?
Hi everyone. I’m аlmοѕt 14 years οld аnd hаνе a lіttlе problem wіth mу skin. Mу skin іѕ oily. It tends tο breakout аlmοѕt еνеrу day. Mу face іѕ аlѕο red іn ѕοmе places. I wουld lονе tο υѕе аn acne medication tο gеt rid οf thеѕе problems. Hοwеνеr, I аm allergic tο benzoyl peroxide, ѕο I саn’t υѕе ProActiv. Whаt products wουld уου reccommend?
You said your problem was "little" so don’t worry. Be sure to cleanse your skin daily with gentle, alcohol free cleansers. Using strong stuff, esp. with alco dries your skin and this stimulates your glands to produce even more oil! Not exactly the desired effect. I recommend Cetaphil for daily cleansing. If you want to use a pore scrub, use one without acne medication, like Clean and Clear Daily Pore Cleanser. At nights before bed, you can use an alcohol free astringent with salycilic acid or stridex wipes. All these things are available at Walgreens / Target etc. if you want prescription stuff, visit your dermatologist; he may recommend differin.
pro active ive used works real good
There are quite a few of them out there.
What you have to understand with medicine is that not every thing works for everybody. We all have different skin types and we all react differently to the chemicals.
If your allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide you can try Freederm, which has Nicotinamide as active ingredient. Apart from that one, I think Valerma Cream in another one that can help.

The only one I know of is clearasil, but since your skin is oily a lot, wash your face often, morning, afternoon, and before bed, to cut the oil down. I had this problem when I was your age. There are a lot of cleaners on the market in your grocery store that you can use to deep clean your skin, and they are not harsh, but gentle soaps. Ask you mom to help you find these products in the store. They are in the skin care isle, or beauty care isle, along with the make-up, shampoos, and soaps. They are not just for women, but men, too. Also you can have your parents take you to see a dermatologist. They have cream medicines for acne. Good Luck!
Try anything with Salycic Acid…
Are you allergic to that?
You can find it in most of the Neutragena Acne Line….
If not, have you tried, AVON’s Clearskin?
Hope that helps.
You can use Mary Kay products
Try Acne Free. They sell it at Walmart & Target. My friend was alergice to ProActive too and she has rosecea. She uses Ance Free and loves it.
OrthoTriCyclyn birth control pills work too, ask your Mom.
I am in school studying the art of esthetics in other words studying to become a licensed esthetician. My best advice to you would be to get facials every week from a school perhaps, because the treatments are offered at a reduced fee. I am not sure how you take care of your skin or cleanse your skin, but the most important thing you can do is not over cleanse it because it will cause your acid mantle to be stripped away therefore causing more oil to be produced which will worsen your acne problems. Try using products that do not contain oil and make sure you drink plenty of water and eat healthy. I have a teenage client that has acne problems and he comes in on a regular basis for treatment which helps reduce his acne problems. Your face is probably red from irritation and whatever you do, do not squeeze or try to do home extractions of your pimples. It will worsen the problem and could cause scaring. I hope this helps. If you need more info feel free to ask.
Three words for you … 1). Cleasne, 2). Tone, and 3). Mosturize (2 per day – morning and evening); and Exfoliate 2 per week.
If you are consistent and keep up this regiment you can get your acne under control if not gone altogehter. The product line you can try is Clearsil or Aveeno. These are products that have been around for a long time but they WORK. Too, sometimes a really mild product works as well; for instance just perhaps washing your face with ivory soap can be helpful and less harsh. And please don’t ever go out without sun screen. Too, what you eat plays a large part in what shows up on your face. You need to increase your water intake and cut back on sweets, junk food and fast food. Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet. But those fruits that are high in acid should be eaten in morderation (i.e. oranges, grapefruits).
But when all fails its always good to see your dermetoglogist.

Salcylic Acid or glycolic acid is your best bet-these are way gentle acne fighters.
I used to use Proactiv with benzoyl peroxide and that was a mistake I will never make again. When I called to cancel my Proactiv account, they said that I could try their gentler product that has salcylic acid and they sent me a free box. I haven’t used it because I had already switched to a product with Salcylic acid (Nature’s cure) before I got my Proactiv kit. I broke out really bad when I switched to salcylic acid. (remember acne always gets worse before it can better though I don’t know why…) It got better and now I hardly break out at all. I chose Nature’s cure because it was cheaper (less than $20 for a kit). I was sick of paying $50 every month and a half for Proactiv. Plus the Nature’s cure kit offers more product (6 oz. bottles rather than 4 oz.) and lasts longer.
However, I would suggest any 3-step product that has salcylic or glycolic acid.
OK lets be real, acne’s a b**** and it’s the worst thing to get over but its not impossible. The best thing out there for it right now is Acutane, but, it is not for everyone that’s why it is only obtained by a Dr’s prespription. Some people tend to be allergic to the medicine, for a few percentage it does not work for, but usually it does, for everyone, even though after you stop using it the acne comes back, like with every other medicine after the treatment is over. It is really harsh on your body though, for women they can’t take contraceptives or have kids due to some serious problems that can occur while taking it, other people experience horrible peeling and dryness.
Apart from all this, i used to have acne, apparently not bad enough for Acutane (according to my dermatologist) but it was still bad (at least i thought it was), so i was recommended this over the counter medicine called "Nature’s Cure". They have two medicines, one formulated for men, and another for women, and among these they have the topical creams and face washes as well as pills that work from the inside out. I personally tried the cream and face wash. Since i started using it i have yet gotten another pimple, seriously, my face is progressing miraculously, alot of the blemishes are gone, almost all. Smooth skin, it does dry it a little bit but barely, everyone’s complimented on it. A few more weeks and my face will be completely clear. To help with this i also get facials done, everyonce in a while to help with the deep cleaning, which helps alot to remove stubborn clogs and blackheads and so forth.
I know not all of these over the counter medicines work for everyone, like myself that i’ve tried Proactive and Murad and all those things and i actually got my face worse due to them. But this one worked, see if you can find it in a neighborhood pharmacy or drugstore, or supermarket (which some of them also sell them), or online in their website.
About a diet, the main cause of acne is not your diet, eating chocolate or drinking too much soda, it’s an old wife’s tale, BUT a good diet will prevent excess oils in the skin which will clog pores and cause breakouts.
The main cause of acne are your body’s hormones, we can’t fix those with a change in diet. For me i go to the gym about 5 days a week, and excercise, this helps your metabolism break fatty acids that may affect your hormone production, as well as providing an overall well being for the body and get you nice and fit, a little blood to the old pump is sometimes the best remedy for current health problems as well as future undeveloped ones.
Stress is another factor that people a lot of the time don’t consider, it does affect your acne because too much stress will trigger hormone production in the body and well you know the rest. Try to take life easily, i know sometimes it’s hard but you gotta try, for my stress, excercise wipes it all out, and it usually does for a lot of people so think about it.
Well i hope this helps you and good luck with what ever you end up trying.
