EDIT: Applying tea tree oil directly onto the skin can cause burning, irritation, itching, and make acne WORSE. If you decide to use tea tree oil, ALWAYS DILUTE IT!
And working out is not a guaranteed acne cure. Yes, sometimes working out can help lessen acne as it helps your body become healthier, but I have known plenty of active people, even health nuts, that had acne, both mild and moderate.
And using a harsh scrub on acne = bad idea. The St.Ives scrub is fine to use, but NOT on pimples. Use it for blackheads. I did, and it helped with mine, but I no longer use it as I am trying to use more hydrating products now. If you use it on acne, you will likely end up with angry pimples. Also, I advise against using scrubs in the morning, as it could easily cause your skin to be more sensitive to the sun. Also, using it too often can make your acne worse, so stick to using it once or twice a week.
And that Clinique 3-step routine is notorious for aggravating the skin and not working. It has a 2.6 rating on makeupalley.
Well, what is your skin type?
Nothing works the same on everyone, not even medication.
And why are you using soap? By "not work" are you referring to it not clearing your skin of zits? Or that it isn’t cleaning your skin? If your skin feels at all tight when using either of these cleaning methods, STOP using them NOW.
The soap is likely doing more harm than good to your skin, as soaps tend to be more drying to the skin, especially on the face since the skin is more delicate/sensitive.
Or, the acne wash could be too drying as well. All of these drying products are likely breaking you out more.
Also, are you using a moisturizer? How do you treat your skin? Do you wear makeup? These are all important factors.
For acne, always use a gentle cleanser. Yes, it may be tempting to use an acne cleanser, but these are often too drying and lead to irritation. Irritation is a major cause for acne. After cleansing with a gentle all purpose cleanser, moisturize with something with SPF for the AM, and another basic moisturizer (or look for one designed for acne) at night. Stop using soap on your face. If you prefer keeping acne products to your cleansers, then use an acne fighting cleanser at night only, and use a good, hydrating moisturizer.
I personally use Herbalism as my day and night cleanser (it is a natural product. Because natural/organic ingredients tend to be quite irritating, this product may not work for you – in fact, this is the only LUSH cleanser that doesn’t irritate my skin). I then use Biore SkinPreservation’s SPF30 moisturizer in the morning and Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti Wrinkle Cream at night, which helps with acne, acne scars and fine lines. Both are quite hydrating in my case, but they sink in properly. This is key when using moisturizers. If it feels like it’s sitting on the skin, even when only a small amount is used, then move on. If you can see/feel it on your face hours later, try something else. I’ve probably used a dozen different moisturizers in the last 4 years, so it does take patience.
Exfoliation is also important with acne. However, anything too drying and harsh can make acne worse, so be sure to use something gentle enough that still exfoliates. I am currently trying out Boots Botanics Purifying Face Scrub, and right now it doesn’t irritate my skin. So hopefully this will be my new scrub. I suggest exfoliating once to twice a week as using it too often, even something gentle, could cause extra acne.
Using masks can also help. This is where you can use something that is more aimed toward acne as opposed to overall skin care. Look for a clay-based mask, nothing too minty though (these tend to be more irritating). I’d also suggest alternating with a hydrating mask to ensure your skin doesn’t become dehydrated. I am currently trying out Boots Botanics Conditioning Clay Mask, and will be trying out The Body Shop’s Aloe face mask once I get a chance to head on over to the mall. Only use each mask once a week, and if you are going to alternate between a few, keep to using masks once to twice a week. So if you are using 3 masks, use one every week. If you use one for acne, then keep to using it on the acne-prone areas, not the whole face.
Although my skin is oily in the t-zone and normal to dry in the cheeks, it is prone to becoming dehydrated all over. When that happens, I find my acne becomes worse. So it’s essential to keep the skin hydrated, NOT to dry it out.
If you still want to use some spot treatments, I suggest talking to your doctor to see what they’d recommend. They may also be able to give you samples to try out to see if it helps.
Products may help some of it, but it may not reduce it all. Most acne occurs due to wacky hormones, which is why acne generally occurs first during puberty, and for women during menopause and pregnancy. So, just treat your skin gently, don’t overdo it and try to keep healthy overall. When looking at your products, be sure that you only have one or two products designed specifically for acne. Using too many can have a counteractive effect and worsen the acne. So if you are to use a spot treatment, try not to have any other products other than maybe a face mask be designed specifically for acne.
I’d also suggest taking some vitamins daily, see if that helps. Here is a link to check out that talks about beneficial acne fighting vitamins:

I hope that my answer provides you with some good insight and helps you with your path to finding a good skin care routine for your skin. Just remember – even if you do not find something that works right away, continue looking. You can always return what doesn’t work, so don’t be afraid to really try out a lot. I will leave some websites in my source that you can check out when looking up reviews.
i wouldnt bother with medicine, what i would do is go gym 3 times a week, and hit the steam room after, seriously, problem solved in about 2 months.
try this system, i do it and it works, its made up of different products but it will get rid of oily skin and pimples in a week or less, and it’ll keep it that way, trust me! i do this and it works!
go to "sally’s beauty supply" and buy 2 face masks.
1st. apricot moisturizing mask -$5 (for dry parts)
2nd. mint julep face mask -$5 (for oily parts)
then go to target
1st. Noxzema- $4 (for oily parts)
2nd. St. Ives blackhead and blemish control apricot face scrub-$4(for acne)
3rd. neutrogena blackhead eliminating daily face scrub-$5 (for acne)
you use the blackhead St. ives scrub in the shower, preferably in the morning(its pretty rough so it instantly like kills zits), followed by the neutrogena scrub(its softer so it soothes the skin). the you use Noxzema to remove any excess oil, rub in for about 1 minute and thoroughly rinse off, it might sting the 1st time, that is normal, after wards your skin will be noticeably oil free and smooth.
the two face masks i mentioned before are before you go to sleep. only use one, like if one day your face feels oily use the mint mask for 10 minutes and then rinse off using one of the scrubs, on another day if your face is dry use the moisturizing one for 10 minutes before sleeping and rinse off with one of the face scrub.
try it, you’ll see results in a week or less. =]
oh and drink lots of water, it’ll speed up the process =]
The best natural remedy for pimples is hydration, drink at least 6 glasses of water a day and you will notice your skin clearing up, if you then do get the odd pimple here or there, just use tea tree oil, apply it directly on to your pimple using a Q-tip. DO NOT use soap on your face, it is not ph balanced, use sugar or salt every second day in the shower to exfoliate and rinse with water only.
I can’t believe the answers I’m reading to this question…… wow…
Clinique’s Acne Solutions set works wonders. It’s your typical cleanser, toner, moisturizer routine. All three steps twice a day…once in the morning and once at night. Clinique is great in the fact that they’re allergy tested, fragrance free, and they guarantee everything so you can return it even if it’s used.
Here are a couple of tips that you should know before you start using it… First of all you may notice that you break out more than normal during the first few days to a week. This is because it clears everything out from deep down in your pores. It’s kind of like cleaning out the kitchen drawers…they have to get messy before they can get clean. Also, your Clinique consultant should tell you that you need to shake the toner before you use it because of the oil absorbing powder on the bottom. Use a round cotton ball, not a cosmetic pad or anything else, and just lightly rub once over your face…don’t rub hard or go in circles or anything, you don’t need to scrub. Last but not least, you can put the moisturizer all over your face but I find that it works better if you only put it in the areas where you have breakouts. You should notice that if you stick to the routine your skin will clear up in about two weeks. Lots of people say it works even faster than that.
I hope I answered your question. A Clinique consultant at the counter will be able to answer any additional questions you might have.
I really liked Murad Salycylic Acid. It’s about $50 but will last a long time. It took about 10 days but cleared me right up. Not sure why you won’t go to a derm though. If your acne is cystic, you may need an Rx to help it. Birth control is also an excellent way to control hormonal acne.
Biore Products.About 7$
Another Thing I Use I Love Olay Microdermabrasion And Peel Kit It Works Nice. Its About 25$ But Worth it. Also Its good For Acne Scarring. It Last About3-4 Months.
